Family Concerts
Let the entire family get up close and personal with symphonic music, the instruments
and the musicians themselves! The Traverse Symphony Orchestra invites families of all sizes and ages to come enjoy free afternoons of fun, entertainment, and education. Each concert focuses on a specific piece of popular music or section of the orchestra. Kids have the chance to hear music, touch and feel the instruments, ask questions, and much more. The 2012-2013 family concert schedule is as follows:
Pictures at an Exhibition
Sunday, January 13, 3 p.m.
City Opera House, Traverse City
Hear an octet of Traverse Symphony Orchestra musicians play Mussorgsky’s “Pictures at an Exhibition” conducted by Tom Riccobono—fabulous music in a light-hearted, family-friendly atmosphere! Artwork created by local young artists who listened to the musical work will be shown on a big screen during the performance. Pre-concert activities include a musical instrument petting zoo and other fun from KidzArt and Kindermusik. Doors open at 2:30 p.m. FREE admission!
A Fable and a Fairy Tale
Sunday, April 28 | 3 p.m.
City Opera House, downtown Traverse City
Get the whole family involved at the Traverse Symphony Orchestra’s
family concert “A Fable and a Fairy Tale” on Sunday, April 28 at 3
p.m. at the City Opera House. Listen to kid-friendly and fun musical
tales from the classic Grimm Brothers tale “The Musicians of Bremen”
and the Dr. Seuss story of “Gerald McBoing Boing!” Music performed by Traverse Symphony Orchestra members and narration by Kate Botello.Musical instrument petting zoo begins at 2:30 p.m. FREE admission.
